Goal

To accelerate the readiness of your students entering the life science industries by arming them with critical-thinking skills gained through immersion in science-based quality education and real-world experiences of the 21st century

What is the Curriculum?

The Quality Science Education Program is a Cooperative Education Model between industry and academia that consists of 5 courses (See Full Curriculum):

  1. Through the Chief Quality Officer Team, content has been developed for 3 semester-long industry courses. These 3 courses have been standardized, such that the program is taught globally from the same set of slides, the homework and exams are the same, and anyone teaching the program has access to the recorded version for a train-the-trainer type of model.

  2. Additionally, students are required to take 2 semester-long courses through your school. These courses include a business course, and microbiology (or based on Pathway approval, another non-major science)

As soon as your students start in the Quality Science Education Program, they may join the Pathway Hiring Platform (at no cost) to be connected to industry internships and employment.

How Does the Program Work?

Every school is able to decide how best to offer the Quality Science Education (QSE) program to its students. 4 options to consider are provided below. In every case, the standardized educational material from Pathway will be used, which includes course videos and/or slides, homework assignments, exams and supplemental material.

Xavier University Students are taught by AstraZeneca on-campus

  1. On-Campus. Your school may offer the QSE program for academic credit as a minor, micro-credential, etc. by offering the program as an on-campus experience. The instructor must have significant industry experience, and as such, may be an existing faculty member or adjunct professor, or Pathway will make every effort to find an industry teaching team to “adopt” your school.

  2. On-Line Live. Your school may offer the QSE program for academic credit as a minor, micro-credential, etc. by offering the program as an on-line live experience. Similar to the on-campus option, the on-line instructor must have significant industry experience. Again, the instructor may be an existing faculty member or adjunct professor, or Pathway will make every effort to find an industry teaching team to “adopt” your school as a virtual team.

  3. On-Line Asynchronous. Your school may offer the QSE program for academic credit as a minor, micro-credential, etc. by offering the program as an on-line asynchronous experience. In this case, Pathway will provide you the course videos, assignments, quizzes, exams and supplemental material for you to include in your Learning Management System.

  4. Through Pathway. If your school is unable to offer the program for academic credit, or if you want your students to start in the program while you are working towards approval, then your students may take the on-line asynchronous program directly through Pathway. Pathway offers all 3 industry courses in the Spring, Summer and Fall semesters of every year, and the cost is 100% covered for your students to participate. As soon as your program is approved, Pathway will instruct your students to begin taking the program through you.

—> Volunteer Support: In addition to helping to teach the courses, industry volunteers are willing to support your lead professor by grading homework assignments and exams (if needed and desired).

Students who successfully complete the program (no matter how it is offered) will receive certification from Pathway, which may be designated after the student’s name as “CQSP” - Certified Quality Science Professional.

How Can You Get Started?

The Quality Science Education program is rich with resources, content and possibilities. It is highly recommended that you participate in a live virtual information session (dates provided above) to learn more about the program and have your specific questions answered. In general, though:

  1. Pathway will work with you to determine how best to offer the program for your students, including any volunteer support you may need.

  2. Your school will sign a Memorandum of Understanding to outline how we will work together.

  3. Pathway will arrange a web-meeting with your students, and include an industry member, to discuss the program and encourage them to enroll in your courses, or to take the program through Pathway (if you prefer).

  4. Pathway will meet with you to provide all the educational materials needed if you are offering the program for academic credit. The materials are “hyper-organized”, so the process has proven to be quite simple.

  5. Pathway will directly answer student questions related to the Quality Science Education program certification.

  6. Pathway will issue CQSP certifications to the students who successfully complete the program.

Benefits for Your School

  2. Increased Student Recruiting:  Your school will be able to communicate to prospective families that through this program, students are placed on an accelerated path into one of the most in-demand industries in the world.  Participating students are highly valued and sought after by companies of all sizes and global locations.

The Pathway Hiring Platform removes the barriers created by targeted school lists. Now your students will be visible for fulfilling career opportunities!
